Rectangular hollow sections (RHS) and square hollow sections (SHS) are two powerful steel box section products, with rectangular sections proving valuable and highly functional.
Due to their flat surfaces, RHS steel tubes make excellent practical products, while also proving exceptionally easy to join and weld. Much like SHS steel pipes, their flat surfaces make them very easy to connect to other surfaces, and minimal edge preparation is required.
The ends of these steel bars are hollow, meaning that there is a substantial gap in the tips. Much like other hollow section steel (HSS) products, such as steel pipe, or circular hollow sections (CHS), these mild steel sections are long, durable metal profiles with broad cross-sections.
This is where these rectangular steel bars differ from solid ones. Although almost identical in shape, solid steel bars are much more challenging to join onto existing surfaces. In comparison, hollow sections make practical and still aesthetically-pleasing solutions, while still offering incredible sturdiness, versatility and flexibility for solid metal.

Steel RHS products are not symmetrical like SHS beams, instead offering a rectangular shape at the edges. These steel tubes offer excellent resistance to buckling, torsion and corrosion.

Galvanised steel pipes or primer coatings on mild steel bars will help to enhance their corrosion resistance, and help the bars to last even longer, which is already a long time considering steel is infinitely recyclable.
